The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole.
The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, microfilm, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

Assorted documents on the Gilman Ranch and its valenica oranges, including photocopies, transcripts, and clippings of newspaper articles addressing the history of the citrus grove, their commemoration in the 1930s, and its death in the 1970s.
Publications include the Santa Ana Weekly Blade, Los Angeles Times, California Citrograph, California Cultivator, Orange County Register, Placentia Courier, Press-Enterprise, and News Tribune.
Also includes research by Virginia Carpenter and Leo Friis into the background of the valenica orange grove.
