The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole.
The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, microfilm, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

Contains documents regarding Jim Sleeper and his work, including advertisements for his books, a bibliography, two copies of "Bears to Briquets: A History of Irvine Park, 1897-1967" (1967), a photograph of Sleeper with Frances and Don Meadows, and an issue of "New Worlds of Irvine."
Also contains copies of articles by Sleeper, including "'A Century of Citrus:' The Story of Orange County's Golden Harvest," reprinted from the Santa Ana Register (Nov. 17, 1968); "County Tin Mine Faces Axe," in the Register (April 14, 1968); and "On the Trail of 'Holy Jim' Smith: The Man Behind the Legend," in the Orange County Geneological Society Quarterly, Vol. V., No. 1 (March 1968), as well as photocopies of local newspaper articles about Sleeper.
