Biographical / Historical
The iḍāpātra or vessel (pātra) that holds the iḍā oblation is a container usually made of wood from the varaṇa (Cratæva Roxburghii) or aśvattha (Ficus Religiosa) tree. The size of the vessel is said to be as long as the foot of the sacrifice or an aratni or the length from the elbow to the tip of the little finger.
