Biographical / Historical
The atigrāhya- (graha-), is a type of graha used in the Twelve-day Rite. The name refers to the three “extra” (ati-)libations for the gods Agni ‘Fire”, Indra ‘the god noted for his battle with the serpent or dragon (Vṛtra) representing Chaos’, and Sūrya or the Sun God. The cups used for the libations are called by the same name appearing in the extended Soma ritual or the Twelve Day rite (Dvādaśāha).
