Biographical / Historical
The praṇītāpātram or praṇītā-praṇayana-pātram or water bowl is used in the New-and Full-Moon Offerings (Darśapūrṇamāsa) toreceive the purified water, which is fetched (praṇīta) from one part of the ritual site and placed to the north of the offering fire (ahavanīya). The bowl is made of either aśvattha- (Ficus Religiosa) or vātaṇa (Crataeva Roxburghii or Creataeva Religiosa) wood.
