The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole.
The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, microfilm, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

General
John "Don Juan" Forster (1814-1882) was one of the largest landowners in 19th century California. Moving California in 1833, Forster became a Mexican citizen in 1836, and in 1837 married into the prominent Pico family. Ranchos acquired by Forster included La Nacion, Mision Vieja, Trabuco, San Juan Capistrano, Valle de San Felipe, and Santa Margarita y las Flores.
