The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole. All Time periods from 1776-2012 (to date) are covered. The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia. papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

General
Materials belonging to Don Meadows (1897-1994), a prominent local historian and scholar of Southern California history. Born in Indiana, his family moved to Orange, California in 1903, and his interest in California history began with a visit to Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1905.
Meadows began working as a teacher in the Long Beach School district in 1925, where he met his wife Frances who he married in 1926. Over the years, Meadows also worked as a naturalist on biological surveys on Catalina Island, Channel Islands, and California state parks.
A member of numerous Californian historical societies, Meadows helped found the Los Compadres con Libros book collector's society, served as a director of the Orange County Historical Society, and as a board member for the Friends of the University of California, Irvine Library.
