Price, Sterling, 1920 - 1973-10-14

 Sub-Group — Document box: 51
Identifier: 16-1

Scope and Contents

The collection contains papers, generally of a business nature, received by Sterling Price of Santa Ana and Midway City, California and, to a lesser extent, by Maurice Price and J.D. Price.

The bulk dates for the collection are in the years 1923-1927 and 1934-1937. Most of the papers are materials received from other people in the course of business. A number of account records with Orange County merchants other businessmen (in agriculture, construction, automotive repair, insurance, etc.) have survived. Scattered records mention the name of Ed M. Rosenbaum of San Juan Capistrano.

Papers generated by Sterling Price himself include a statement of financial condition, a memo book and pocket ledgers, a cash book, and threshing notebooks.

Sterling Price described himself as a "rancher and stockman" in a statement to Orange County Trust and Saving in 1927. Involvement with the sugar beet, spinach, and chili pepper industries is reflected in the papers, as is an association with airplanes. He also appears to have owned properities in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, and in Santa Ana, Midway City, and La Bolsa in Orange County.

The collection was donated by Gerald Price, nephew of Sterling Price, in 1981.
